Title: Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash

Author: Jame Kuhoric (Author), James Craig (Illustrator)

Pages: 144

Publication Date: September 28th 2006

Basic Plot: Set 5 years after Freddy vs. Jason and 10 years after Army of Darkness (?) Lori and Will (from F vs. J) return to Crystal Lake to get closure. However as we all expect Jason isn’t really dead and shows up to kill them. Freddy is once again powerless and basically trapped in Jason’s mind but he uses his dream powers to convince Jason his mother wants him to help Freddy (again) by retrieving the Necronomicon from the old Voorhees house. With the book Freddy can regain his powers and continue his reign of terror.

Meanwhile Ash Williams has been assigned to the Crystal Lake branch of S-mart to whip the teen slacker employees into shape. He discovers Jason’s kills and interprets them as the works of Deadites. He discovers the truth about Jason and Freddy and sets out to stop them. Hilarity and bloodshed ensue.

My likes/dislikes: Disclaimer. My copy of this is stuck in a box at my mother in laws. No library anywhere that has this in its collection will loan it out so I am giving this review based memory and what I could find on Amazon and Wikipedia.

OK so the good. Its Ash vs. two other posers. Hail to the King baby! There was talk of this actually being a movie depending on how well Freddy vs. Jason did at the box office. And I would have stood in line to see it. There are nods to previous movies especially in the flash back to Freddy vs Jason. The dialogue for Ash seems almost as if Sam Raimi or Bruce Campbell wrote. Its silly like you would expect from Evil Dead but serious and creepy like you want from Freddy.

The Bad is the lack of Freddy one liners that we all knew and loved. Also the interaction between Freddy and Jason via dreams comes across very surreal and just looks weird. I guess it just doesn’t translate well to comic form. And why the hell is Ash still working for S-Mart? The Necronomicon was in the Voorhees house the whole time? What? Its like they saw the movies but ignored some other basic points. They could have just found the book some other way. Some of the dream sequences also left me wondering if it was Jasons mom and Freddy or just Freddy using that image to influence Jason.

My score: 4 out of 5
